Football, Scrimmages, and So Much Bulldog Energy!

The Bulldog Wire kicked off the season attending the first sporting event of the fall season — Soccer in Oliver C. Dawson. After waiting out a 2½ hour rain delay, we watched a young Bulldog team take on Southern Utah. It was a hard fought game. We came up on the short end of the 1-0 battle. We are the youngest team in the conference, so we are optimistic about the future.

Sat AM we attended the 2nd scrimmage of the season for the Bulldog Football team. Coach Berry has the team looking good — both sides of the ball look to be ready to go. A lot of new faces: 5 of the 6 QBs are new. But all that played looked to be ready to step up to the challenge. Orangeburg is buzzing.

We finished off the day with Meet the Bulldogs at SHM, and boy was it electric — the band and the cheerleaders had the crowd in attendance lit. Really, that saying “it’s something in the air” — there is something in the atmosphere. All the athletic teams were represented, and Coach Pough and his crew put together a great program. Everyone was fed after — a group called The Concerned Gentlemen cooked a feast.

Not that I want to become political with the Wire, I do want to make a statement: this upcoming election is very crucial to the future of SC, and regardless of your political affiliation, it is imperative that we get to the polls and engage as many people as we can to register and vote.

From Campus Legend to Pro Golfer: Martin Roache

Through the Shell Legacy Foundation, Donnie continues to pour back into the community that shaped him — supporting scholarships, mentorship, and opportunities for the next generation of Bulldogs. His journey from Orangeburg to the Pro Football Hall of Fame is a living reminder of what SC State produces: excellence, leadership, and a heart for giving back.
